Bio

"Music, from a creative standpoint, is a lifelong process of growth and self discovery. It's the work within the work." -Sean Thomas 2008

Sean Thomas DJ career began in 1994 after a few years of hanging out at raves and clubs in Philadelphia, New York, DC, and Baltimore. Early influences from Philly greats King Britt, Josh Wink, and Dozia, New York's Onionz and Joeski, and friends OKeef, Rob Paine and Pete Moss helped form Sean into the exceptional DJ he is today. In addition to numerous events and residencies in Philadelphia, Sean has DJed all over the US including: New York, San Francisco, Denver, Portland, San Diego, New Orleans, Minneapolis, and Miami.

Sean was also responsible for putting on some of the biggest and most influential parties on the East Coast throughout the 1990's as 1/4 of the Circle Crew. The "IT" parties, as they are known, were a series of big and not so big events held in the Philadelphia area that featured ground-breaking DJs and Producers such as Tom Middleton, Mark Farina, Stacy Pullen, Coldcut, Derrick Carter, and Robert Hood amongst others. The Circle Crew also hosted a Friday night in Philly for a few years called "Yoman" where they continued to book top house DJs from around the U.S. and beyond helping to shape underground dance culture in Philadelphia.

For nearly 4 years, as the 1990's ended and we moved into the 2000s, Sean held a residency in Philadelphia with Recline Records founder Pete Moss at the now world famous club Fluid. Their Saturday nights were simply called "Steady". Defined by their relentlessly grooving sets and passionate approach, Sean and Pete worked the tightly knit crowd week after week. Throughout the years "Steady" played host to guests JT Donaldson, Alton Miller, Miguel 'Migs', Julius Papp, Dave Alvarado, Jef K. and Miles Holloway. With its seasoned following, "Steady" stood as the premier House Music weekly in Philly for the time.

In 1998, Sean embarked on his production career alongside Pete Moss for the 2nd release on Pete's imprint, Recline. Their EP, "18 City Blocks" (REC002), was received well in The States and Europe and was charted by Charles Webster and Josh Wink. The duo followed with a remix for the DIY crew in England that same year (Al Royale Giddy Heights -Reclines Steady Dub-).

In 2000, Sean started Sound Between Movement Recordings. Striving to release quality House Music has been the agenda from day one. For the first group of releases, Sound Between Movement relied solely on vinyl while building its reputation as a proper, no nonsense House label. Representing the first 3 releases, Sean Thomas bold "Living Music" series (SBM-01/SBM-02/SBM-03) made a solid impact with House aficionados in the U.S. and Europe culminating with a licensing of "Free Thing" (SBM-02) to the Transport 6 mix compilation from Trendroid. In 2003 as many House labels sadly began to fade away, Sound Between Movement forged ahead with its new partner, Joey Crawford. A longtime Philly House DJ looking to make his mark, Joey was an ideal fit. Soon after, Sean and Joey produced "The Seduction" EP (SBM-04) further solidifying Sound Between Movement as an important U.S. label.

Since 2006 Sean has led Sound Between Movement into the digital realm (Beatport.com & Stompy.com) while expanding the labels list of contributing Artists. With 2 EPs from Pete Moss (Perfect Timing SBM-06/It's Love SBM-07) and 1 EP from U.K.s Kelvin K. (Get On Up SBM-09), Sound Between Movement continues to push forward gaining momentum.

In the last couple years Sean's production has hit full stride with 2 strong EPs in 07 and 08 (Givin It Up SBM-08/This Culture SBM-10), a remix for Straightshot (Pete Moss Make It Move -Sean Thomas Remix- SS001), and a licensing of Givin It Up to the highly respected Southport Weekender compilation for Beatport. Look for many more endeavors from this House Music advocate.

Sean lives, works and creates in Philadelphia out of Understock Studio.
